Frameworks And Guidelines Developed Or Improved By NAIAD
What this list is
These are the frameworks, guidelines and protocols the project produced. They were written to fill the gaps that appear when an organisation tries to take a Nature Based Solution from an intention to a constructed and financed intervention, and each one addresses a gap that the project encountered in more than one place.
Guidance of this kind is only useful if it is specific about who is supposed to act on it. These documents state the actor they address — a municipality, a catchment authority, a water utility, an insurer, a landowner — and the decision the actor has to take, and they are written to be applied rather than read as findings.
Choosing and designing
An integrated approach to choose, implement and assess NBS for risk management — the overall route, and the placement of each of the project's other outputs within it.
An operationalized classification of Nature Based Solutions — the selection scheme, from a water-related problem to a short list of suitable measures, with the elimination criteria stated.
New hybrid design methodology and framework of practical tools for decision-aiding and assessment of NBS' efficacy — the design methodology for combining natural and built elements in one scheme, and the tools for appraising the combination.
DEMOs framework prototype for participatory integrated planning — the structure for carrying out the assessment jointly with the people affected.
Placing NBS within existing risk management
Integrated risk management framework — how a Nature Based Solution enters the risk management cycle an authority already operates, rather than being treated as a separate initiative.
Readiness approach for NBS implementation — the conditions that have to hold before a measure can be delivered, and how to establish whether they do.
Guidelines for the definition of implementation and investment plans for adaptation — the guidance for turning an appraisal into a plan that specifies what is built, in what order, and who pays for each stage.
Financing and the business case
Natural assurance schemes and the NAS canvas — the arrangement through which the risk reduction an ecosystem delivers is recognised and paid for, and the canvas through which its business case is constructed.
Handbook for the implementation of Nature Based Solutions for water security — the consolidated guidance on designing an implementation and financing arrangement.
Eco:Actuary policy support system guidelines — the guidance produced for the use of the investment planner, so that its results can be interpreted by someone who did not build it.
Engagement and participation
Stakeholder engagement protocol — the structured route through an engagement process, from mapping the actors to recording what came out of it.
Public participation framework — the framework establishing when participation is required, at what stage, and what it has to be able to change.
Street-level guidelines on the insurance value of ecosystems — the guidance organised by the audience it addresses, written for the people who have to make the case for a measure in their own organisation.
