OVERVIEW OF DEMO AIM

The Rotterdam DEMO is one of the three urban demonstration sites in the NAIAD project, together with the Copenhagen and Lodz DEMOs. The aim of this DEMO was to gain insights on urban Nature-Based-Solutions (NBS), through an assessment of the recently implemented Urban Waterbuffer (UWB) in Spangen, as well as through a comparison of NBS strategies and traditional water management approaches at the neighbourhood scale. Through this approach, the demo has been able to highlight the driving factors that led to the realisation of the UWB, whilst also identifying key remaining barriers to the mainstreaming of NBS, and how these can be overcome.
