Communication Materials

Overview

The project's communication material is the part of its output that was written for a reader outside it. It is collected here because it is reusable: a municipality, a catchment authority or a research group can take a brief, a fact sheet or a case description and use it in their own work, and the material was produced in a form that permits that.

The material falls into four groups. The Results in Brief series presents a single output of the project on two pages each, in the form of what the problem is, what was done and what the reader can take from it. The policy briefs address the people who set the conditions under which Nature Based Solutions are implemented. The country fact sheets describe the natural hazard insurance systems of nine European countries. The newsletters and the project's own print material cover the project as it developed.

What is available

The Results in Brief series covers the economic assessment framework, the stakeholder engagement protocol, the NAS canvas, the participatory modelling work, the groundwater and ecosystem service assessments, the insurance value of ecosystems and the work on turning Nature Based Solutions projects into investable propositions, among others. Each is a self-contained document and none requires the others.

The policy briefs present the project's findings on the barriers to Nature Based Solutions, on engaging the insurance sector and on enabling implementation, together with the reports of the three policy roundtables at which those findings were put to the people responsible for policy. The country fact sheets cover Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The training material is a form of communication as well as of capacity building: the self-paced training on low-cost monitoring and the Eco:Actuary guidelines are written so that a participant can work through them without an instructor, and the MOOC presents the project's approach as a course.

How to use it

All of the material is publicly available. Where an output is described elsewhere in this guide, the corresponding brief is linked from the page that describes it, so a reader who needs a summary to circulate can find it beside the detail. Where a brief exists for something that is not covered in the guide, it is listed under the project's public deliverables.
